Prevention and response to the CORONAVIRUS epidemic: Michel Hamala SIDIBE at the UCRC Lab

As part of the prevention and response to the coronavirus epidemic, the Minister of Health and Social Affairs, Michel Hamala SIDIBE was at the laboratories of the UCRC-Mali, on tuesday March 10, 2020. The UCRC-mali is the University Clinical Research Center of the University of Sciences, Techniques and Technologies of Bamako (USTTB).

This visit, which concerned the Biosafety Level 3 laboratory (BSL3) of mycobacteriology and hemorrhagic fevers, the molecular biology and the immuno Core labs, aimed to see the capacity of the center to carry out the coronavirus diagnosis.

At the end of the visit, Minister SIDIBE congratulated and encouraged the UCRC team, not only for the excellent work done in the diagnosis of suspected cases of Ebola virus disease (EVD), but also for the current work it does anonymously to diagnose suspected COVID-19 cases in Mali.

In the presence of the Director of the UCRC (Dean of FMOS) Prof. Seydou DOUMBIA, the Vice-Rector of the USTTB, Prof. Mahamadou DIAKITE, the Dean of the Faculty of Pharmacy , Prof. Boubacar TRAORE, the visit was led by the chief of the biosafety lab level 3, Dr. Bassirou DIARRA, the chief of the molecular biology Lab, Dr Amadou KONE and the Senior researcher and Principal Investigator at the UCRC, Pr. Sounkalo DAO, Infectious Disease Specialist.
