“Data Sciences and the Covid-19 crisis”: Studying the biology of the virus, its epidemiology and proposing a treatment

The African Center of Excellence in Bioinformatics (ACE-B) held on Monday, June 6, 2022, its third symposium. This symposium, held in the meeting room of the laboratory of the University Clinical Research Center (UCRC), will be followed by five days of virtual training workshop, on the theme “Data Sciences and the Covid-19 crisis”.

It contributes to strengthen the analytical capacities in Data Science of African students for the development of the Africa of tomorrow. Covid-19 has impacted the world, said Professor Mamadou Wélé, director of ACE-B. He specifies that this theme aims to question bioinformatics to find solutions to the disease. Bioinformatics and data science make it possible to study the biology of the virus, its epidemiology and to propose a treatment for the disease. For this workshop, the target audience is composed of students interested in Data Science as well as young researchers at the beginning of their career of graduate students in Data Science research fields.

The African Center of Excellence in Bioinformatics (ACE-B) of the University of Sciences, Techniques and Technologies of Bamako (USTTB), is inaugurated in 2015, thanks to the fruitful collaboration of the USTTB and the National Institutes of Health (NIH).
